Biography

Jenny Romaine is a performer, director and puppeteer who has worked with the Bread and Puppet Theater, Janie Geiser, Chinese Theater Works, and Amy Trompetter.  She is a founding member of the OBIE winning GREAT SMALL WORKS collective and was music director of Jennifer Miller's free outdoor traveling CIRCUS AMOK for over a decade.  Romaine is obsessed with keeping theater at the heart of social life and makes shows in opera houses, living rooms, on the street, in clubs, houses of worship, in schools, jails, on the interwebs, on film, and even on the radio.   

Romaine has spent over two decades working (nationally and internationally) with an intergenerational mob of Yiddishists to create radical Jewish culture..also called ethno-graphic surrealism. Her projects have included the SUKKOS MOB (soon to be featured in the series Punk Jews), The memoirs of Glikl Hameln, and the JFREJ/Workmen's Circle PURIM SPIELS to name a few. She is a founder of the Perpetual New Year's Band LESSER PANDA, and in 2007 traveled to India with the Bond Street theater and Afghanistan's Exile theater as part of an international skills share in human rights based Street Performance.  She has toured extensively as  Copper Henningfield, "the World's Greatest Magician," with associate Penny Bordeaux also known as Sam Wilson, underground Stage Illusionist.
